Two For A Sunday

It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon here, and while I'm waiting for the laundry to dry I thought I'd share a couple of cards with you. I found a challenge or two for each card, so I'm pretty tickled about that. First up is a Halloween card that will head off to play at the City Crafter Challenge, where the theme is "Halloween."

My card looks like this:

I'd tried something different, but as I was working on it, I decided I didn't like it, and this card came like a "ping" into my brain. While we were at the Lake House, Darnell showed us this technique. Shiny paper, alcohol inks and a bit of swirling created this. My whole paper looked (to my eyes) pretty ugly, but this particular section seemed fit for a pumpkin. The pumpkin is cut and embossed with a die from the stamp/die set Darnell gifted me, and the sentiment is from the same set.  I popped it up a bit, too. That's a NBUS frilly frame from Gina K., and a PPP scalloped die. I wish you could see this in person; it looks pretty cool, and I love the shine it has.

This next card will visit both Freshly Made Sketches and CASology. You can see the sketch and the cue below:

Here's what my take looks like:

I started with a kraft base. The pears aren't stamps at all. They're dies from a WPlus9 set, and I thought I'd try something to see if it would work; I inked the pear dies with some brown ink before I cut them out, and hot diggity!, it did!! Then I used my Zigs to give them a nice pear color. That's a C9 sentiment, and a few gold sequins to finish the card. And since the dryer just buzzed off, I'd better get running so my clothes don't wrinkle. Hope your upcoming week is wonderful and as always...

Oh, how I can understand what you mean about inky backgrounds. I don't always think those inky (or even watercolor at times) backgrounds that I make are pretty either and then I find the one area/spot I do like and focus on using just that. ;) I'm loving how your pumpkin turned out! Both cards are fabulous, my friend!
Hope all is well...Hugs

Oh, how fun that you used that beautiful golden AI background for your pumpkin, Bevie! It's perfick!! The fluffy circle, the sediment, and the scallop frame all work, too! As for your pears ... I have to say it: CASliciousness to the max! Great idea to ink the die (never done that!) and your coloring is sensational! Love and hugs, Darnell

Love both your designs, it truly sounds like you had the most amazing time at the Lake House (I am a little jealous, but I already know that I would have spent more time talking than creating lol) ps Your die inked pears are genius!

Two fabulous cards Bev!! LOVE your Al ink pumpkin!! Sometimes the ink results are so darn ugly until you cut just a part of it with a die and then you look like a master artist with a plan...go figure!! But anyway, your pumpkin looks amazing in the fancy frame and CAS card base...love it! And I love the idea you tried with inking the die edges...I so am going to try that! Thanks for the tip Bev!! :0)

I bet the rest of that alcohol panel isn't as ugly as you think judging by the wonderful swirly pumpkin, Bev. You have inspired me to get out my pear dies. I haven't used them in ages and the idea to ink it up before cutting intrigues me. I hope it works as well for me as it did for you.

I have no doubt that I'd find something else to cut from that swirled beauty, Bev - such gorgeous colors! beautiful Halloween card - THAT doesn't get said often!
Inking a die... is it a solid die? that one could splatter? I love the results!

Well hold the phone, I remember that piece of AI paper! Look how you even got a brown stem part for the pumpkin - so cool! Maybe you should've kept that brown piece of tissue too, hmm? Gorgeous pair of pears, Bev. You'll have to show me how you did that inking with your die.

I love working with alcohol inks on glossy paper and I love your pumpkin cut from your alcohol make, it looks so beautiful and I love the colors of alcohol inks you used. That frame around it is awesome too and I am loving the orange scallop frame around the whole thing. Very nice Halloween card! Your take on the sketch on the second card is fabulous as well. Loving those pears are a great image to use in place of the circles in the sketch. So happy you got time to get crafty Bev and hope hubby is doing well. Hugs, Brenda

Gorgeous cards! Your "die-stamp" worked perfectly (or should I say "pearfectly" :) . Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.

I thought that AI panel was pretty cool at the time, Bev ... now you've turned part of it into a pumpkin, I think it's rather a stunner! There's such a great texture-y depth to it that's enhanced by the delicate, flourishy frame ... fabulous! Those pears look scrumptious ... it's the brilliant colouring that does that ... CAS and yummy! Miss you! Big hugs & bisous, Anita :)

Your pear pair *grin* is delightful and oh, how beautifully you've coloured them! Sweetness, indeed! Your pumpkin: OHMYSTARS! How wonderful that one of your alcohol swirl sections transformed into a pumpkin and oh, what a dazzling one it is! I have three (yes, indeed...a whopping three, in shades of blue) alcohol inks and Yupo paper sitting, untouched, in my craft room. Still not opened; obviously not tried. Perhaps a December project!
YES...a chat long overdue! We're at races this weekend...the finale for the season...off to see husband's mom next. Will send you a note!
hugs, love and misses,

That swirly pumpkin in the delicate frame looks absolutely fantastic! I am a firm believer in never throwing out backgrounds that don't come out as I was imagining because they usually work really well with die cuts...
The pears look delicious! Gotta try out your trick about inking the die...
