Confirmation Sunday

At church tomorrow, it's Confirmation Sunday. This year we have four confirmands; three very sweet young ladies, and one very special young man. I've had all of these kids in one or another of my Sunday school classes through the years, and it's wonderful to have watched them grow into such fine young people. I belong to a small (in building size) church. It used to be tiny. And we are growing. In years past, sometimes there were no young people being confirmed, or maybe just one, and at most, two. So four is something of a big deal for New Hope. I love going to church. Being a Christian, I like to hear God's Word and be in the company of others who do also. Our small church is like having another family - with sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, cousins, grandchildren...well you get the idea. It really is like family. We're laid back, we argue with one another, but we're always there to help, support, laugh with, counsel, and just plain love each other. New Hope is growing too. I will admit that I was worried that we'd start to lose our sense of family as we grew/are growing, but I have to say, it's more like welcoming loved, new family members home. Pretty awesome. Pastor Janke has made a true difference as our shepherd, and we are thankful he is there. In a little bit, I'm going up to church to clean for Confirmation. Not that the church is dirty, rather it's just the weekly thing we'll be taking care of, and putting a little extra sparkle on everything for tomorrow. I don't mind helping out. It's nice to do this with "family". Now you may wonder why I've waxed on about this.... Well, naturally I've made cards for the kids. And after the middle section of this post, you'll see them and even get a tiny bit of an explanation about them.

All right. I got some new toys in the mail this week. I waited until this morning to play with the one I have wanted for ages. You need to know why (at least a teensy bit). I'm dyslexic. I have issues with multiple areas in my life, and I've found over the years that if I think hard before I attempt something new, it just works better for me. It's like getting a step-by-step movie in my head. Generally works pretty well for me too. So all last night, when I could barely contain my excitement (tell me you don't know what that's all about...) I worked out what I needed to do and exactly how I needed to do it. And dang it all, it worked the first time! Yipee! And I've fallen in love with my new Parker Alphabet dies. Oh. My. Gosh. *sigh*

This card (*sigh*) is for three challenges. First up is over at CAS-ual Fridays where the theme is "Congratulations". And then I found a new to me challenge. It's Pinspired Challenge. Looks like a lot of fun, and I thought, I'd give it a go. Great 'pinspired' photo too! And lastly, it Anything Goes over at Simon Says Stamp. I'm thinking my 'anything' will work here.

Simon Says Stamp Challenge

This is my card:

Very simple, very plain (I might have been channeling Ardyth here...). All papers but the white Bazzill card base are scraps!!!!! Three little blings in lower left, and my new toy, Parker Alphabet dies from Memory Box. I am so in love with this set of dies... Pretty straight forward card. And irl, it's a smidge brighter. Sorry for bad camera work.

These two cards are the ones I made for Confirmation. I found a website that explained "Luther's Rose", which is one of the symbols of the Lutheran church. I won't go into detail, but I will say that the images are appropriate for Confirmation.

That's it for now, and I think I've been windy enough for one day! Happy dances everyone.

These are beautiful, Bev and so perfect for such a special occasion. I think back to the people in my church who made a difference in my life and am so very thankful for them, as I'm sure these lucky 4 young people are thankful for you!

All of your cards are so lovely! The recipients will treasure them. :) I love the look with the dies too. I think I might have to drag some of mine out and give it a try - it is just sooo effective. Hope you have a great weekend! ~Kylie

You made a great card with the dies. I love the bright colors showing through. The confirmand cards are wonderful, too, and I'm sure the youth will love them.

Bev, your strong church community, your firm faith and your generous compassionate spirit in teaching Sunday school just makes my heart sing! You've reminded me of the importance of belief, celebration of the Word, and especially, gratitude! These cards and the Luther Rose are absolutely perfect for the confirmands! They will be treasured for sure! Oh my, how I wish to be part of a community like yours! And so I will be - vicariously! Thanks for the inspiration!! c

Bev...wow! I am truly at a lose of words, this is simply one stunning card. I wish I would have been making cards like this when my daughter was confirmed several years ago. I love to read about your faith and your church family. I have to agree with Anita, your faith really does shine through and very beautifully I might add. Lovely cards!

Congratulations to the four young people today at this benchmark moment in their young lives! I'm sure you are one of the cornerstones that your church relies on for support and enthusiasm. What a blessing you are, Bev.

Your Parker card channeling Ardyth and your confirmation cards are all precious and so well done! I have that alphabet set, too, so this card is going straight in my faves to be CASEd! I adore the combination of simplicity and the riot of colors!!

Enjoy this time, enjoy your new goodies. Hope these youngins appreciate the support the congregation is giving them. Beautiful cards (long story but I was baptized Lutheran, converted to Catholicism) and appreciate your cards. Hope summery days have his the Western shores of Lake Michigan.

Just perfect! I've always found it hard to make cards for confirmands because of their age. The cards needs to honor the occasion - but hopefully the confirmand likes it too - I think you've captured it beautifully!!

Oh my! Your post made me sigh as I read it. Your never wavering faith in God, the love you feel for your fellow parishioners, your genuine pride of the accomplishments of the young confirmands, your joy of having such an amazing Pastor...I could go on and on. You shine like a beacon!

I'm so glad that you decided to share the confirmation cards because I know the your passion for your faith would be reflected in your creations. Truly a "work of heart" dear friend!

Lovin' the Parker alphabet too and yes, totally an Ardyth card with a bit of Bev bling in the corner!

Wonderful occasion, wonderful cards, Bev!! I got confirmed myself through the adult education program at our Catholic church last year. It is another family, and you do want to help however you can. How sweet of you to make cards for each of the young adults on their special day. They are each beautiful! Thanks for joining the fun at CAS-ual Fridays!
