Making Plans

A couple of weeks ago, I started making plans for this year's home repair projects. We live in a sweet home built in 1929, which has many of the original features left untouched, including light fixtures, doors and woodwork, and amazing plaster work. A bit of the plaster in the dining room and living room need repair, and a coat of paint wouldn't hurt either, so I thought, "hey! This is the year to get both done!" I was happily dreaming of paint colors and was planning to hire the whole job out! And then, I thought, "There's enough money left to get the work done on the soffits, facia, and gutters on the addition and garage too!" Yay!! And if those projects didn't cost too much, I might even have enough money left over to get some new dining room chairs. For a little while, I fell asleep at night thinking about beige, green, and blue paint colors. Then a bridge in my mouth broke. And I got an infection. For more than a week I looked like a lopsided chipmunk, but the infection is nearly gone now, thankfully. *sigh* It's going to take a nice chunk of that set-aside money to fix what's happened in my mouth. Ugh. Blessed to have the funds and maybe if I just hire out the plaster repair, one of my sons can come and help me paint.... It's always something, isn't it?! The upside is, if I have Christian come and help me, it would be some lovely time spent together. That's a really nice upside to all this, isn't it?! I'd trade time with my kids to new paint any day. See...I make my plans and God says, "Girl, I've got something better for you!"

All that fun started about 10 days ago, and now that I'm feeling better, I thought I'd make some cards. It's what we do, right?! I've got two to share today. The first one will head off to CAS(E) this Sketch, and the second one will go play along at Fusion (where I've used the top left part of the inspiration photo and the colors), and at CAS On Friday (embossing).

For your blog

Here's what I made:

For the birthday card, I've used a new CP set, and a sentiment from Sugar Pea. I cut the center panel with an MFT die, and used a scrap of blue that matched the ink on one of the circles.
For the sympathy card, I used an Altenew set and heat embossed those pretty leaves. That's also an MFT die and a Gina K. sentiment in the lower panel. No matter how I tried to give this its true mint green color, it photographed a bit on the blue side. *sigh* Seriously easy cards though. Had so much fun making them. You have a great day, and as always...

So glad to hear you are on the mend my friend! I hear you on the renovation thing, our oven is dying and it went from just a 'new oven' to nearly a whole new kitchen.... now, I'm thinking it's just back to the oven lol. Good luck with the renos, whatever you get done will be fabulous I've no doubt! ps As always I adore your card designs!

I'm sorry about the change in plans (just had to do that recently too when the furnace went out...grrrrr!!), but I think having your son come to paint sounds like a splendid idea!! And you can cook and bake for him as payment, right? RIGHT??!! :0) Just teasing ya Bev...only if you want too!! But anyway, your cards are wonderful! Love your fun birthday card with all the circles and your sympathy card is CAS perfection!! Glad you're feeling better too!! :0)

Wonderful cards, Bev!
I am so happy you are feeling better!! Never fun going through something like that. Oh and the renovations...I'm in the same boat as we speak. I had some 'bright ideas' and needless to say our home has been chaos for the past two weeks now...soon to be three, I'm sure. Always seems like something that should be so easy, takes twice (or even three times) as long. Buuut, you think about the end and how nice it will be, so of course it's all worth it in the end. ;) Sounds like a wonderful time to have your son. :)
Have a great week, my friend! Hugs

Well isn't that just the way it goes? But you're looking at this set back through the right lenses, Bev. [too bad we didn't have that chat sooner. Tom might have helped you out with that bridge!]
Your dots are darling, and didn't you just nail that Sketch? Thanks for joining us this week, my friend.
That Leafy Canopy has nearly been worn out over here on my side of the Lake - you've used it in the most CAS and beautiful way! p.s. your minty blue is gorgeous!

Your birthday card is bright and fun, Bev! Perfect way to use that sketch and I love the colors and patterns together! Your sympathy card is beautiful and serene. I love those leaves! Funny story: Gene had a house before we were married, and with our wedding money we decided to have the exterior painted. Well, the painter put a big swatch on the house, snorted away our money, and we never saw him again. Heard he was in rehab a year later and we were not allowed to ask for our money back. Friends and family came to the rescue and we have great memories of painting that little house.

So sorry your plans went awry, Bev, but I love your upbeat outlook. Yes, God does have plans of his own. I'm just glad you're well enough to keep making such lovely CAS cards.

Oh Bev, that is awful! I can imagine that it was painful too to have an infection and a lopsided jaw. Glad to hear that the infection is nearly gone! God does indeed change plans for us and usually for the better. Even though you can't do everything you were planning on doing to the house/garage area, I can't imagine anything better than getting to spend the time with your son painting! No tv, phones or anything else that distracts. Just you and him. How wonderful! Love your cards, the first one for CASE(E) this sketch is so fun and colorful! Love the papers on both bottom 3 circles! Your second card is CASalicious! Love those stamped leaves, they are so beautiful and love how the sympathy sentiment is tone on tone looking. Very subtle and very beautiful. Hugs, Brenda

Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit, how did I miss this post? Oh, that's right, napping! I came over because I saw your awesome birthday circles received well-deserved recognition at CTS! Congratulations, Bevie! I love your second design, too! So glad to know you are doing lots better and I like your plan to call on Christopher to help you have some time with him, and get some painting done, too! Miss you! Keep healing! Hugs, Darnell

So good to know you're feeling so much better, Bev ... all those happy prayers coming in your direction did the trick! Now, having Christian over to paint sounds like a great plan ... isn't God so much better at this stuff than we all are!! Now, your cards ... those deliciously patterned bubbles of colour look as though they're happy dancing ... what a fun, graphic and celebratory design! LOVE the white on mint ... serene, understated, gentle ... and perfect for a sympathy card! Missing you, sweet friend ... big hugs and bisous, Anita :)

There is that classic saying - life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans. I find that to be even more true as I get older. (Or else I'm just losing the ability to easily roll with the changes!) I'm glad you are starting to feel better. We all tend to underestimate dental issues, but I've had my fair share and it's nothing to sneeze about!

I love your mix of cards today - bright and cheerful - and then the lovely softly colored sympathy!
